Want to get organized before the chaos of the application season arrives? Students will receive access to their own copy of the GE College Prep College Application Tracker Spreadsheet, which allows them to collect and organize the necessary data for each individual college. Here are just a few examples:

  • Various deadline types and dates
  • Standardized testing requirements
  • Interview sign-up protocol
  • Specific program/college requirements
  • Types of letters of recommendation accepted

By the end of the day, students will have a general timeline in place for the coming months and an understanding of each school’s unique recommendations and requirements.

Students must bring the following in order to attend this workshop:

  1. A tentative list of colleges to which they will apply* (8-12 recommended)
  2. Login credentials for Naviance (or their school's version of it)
  3. A fully charged laptop

*If student is unsure where he/she wants to apply, we strongly recommend scheduling an initial consultation with one of our fabulous counselors.

NOTE: WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO ATTEND WORKSHOP 1 PRIOR TO WORKSHOP 2

There are seemingly countless moving parts to each application, and this two-day workshop will help students compile all of the necessary information, fill out multiple applications (all of which are released on August 1), gather all of the supplemental essay prompts, and start brainstorming and crafting responses.

Day 1: Students will fill out the Common Application, Coalition Application, UC Application, Cal State Application (and if time allows, any outliers that are missing from this list). Students will also learn to maximize the one-line description available for each extracurricular activity.

Day 2: Students will finalize the wording of the extracurricular sections, send electronic letter of recommendation requests to their teachers and counselors, compile all supplemental essay prompts for all of the schools, and start brainstorming for these essays.

Students must have/bring the following in order to attend this workshop:

  1. An appropriate email address dedicated solely to college applications
  2. A GE College Prep online survey completed by their parents
  3. Login credentials for Naviance (or their school’s version of it)
  4. A list of colleges to which they will apply* (8-12 recommended)
  5. A fully charged laptop

Workshop 3: "Essays and Interviews: Letting Your Personality Shine Through"

Sat, August 10 @ 10:00am-3:00pm – $399 $349 (get $50 off until July 1)

NOTE: WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO ATTEND WORKSHOPS 1 AND 2 PRIOR TO WORKSHOP 3

So much of college applications are numbers: test scores, GPAs, class rank, et cetera. Essays and interviews allow you to infuse your personality into the applications, reminding the readers that you’re a real person, not just a name and some statistics on a piece of paper. Learn how to write essays and prepare for interviews in a way that will set you apart from the competition, presenting an application that is both authentic and unique.

Morning: Students will dive into the Common Application, Coalition Application, and UC Application essay prompts and begin brainstorming and outlining. Our counselors will shed light on what Admissions officers are really looking for in these essays: what topics to avoid, what details to include (and which to leave out), et cetera. Perhaps most importantly, they will cover how to ensure that your essay provides a deeper look into who you are, not just what you’ve accomplished. Students will leave with thoughtful outlines for each prompt and a clear road map to crafting a first draft.

Afternoon: Go into your admissions and alumni interviews fully prepared. This workshop will include an icebreaker activity, an overview of the pillars of a successful interview, an interactive “storytelling” exercise, as well as one-on-one mock interviews with feedback and Q&A. Students will learn critical interview skills, including the following:

  • Build rapport quickly
  • Make your life story compelling
  • Let your personality shine through
  • Prepare relevant, intelligent questions
  • Learn to answer questions when you're stumped

Students must have/bring the following in order to attend this workshop:

  1. An appropriate email address dedicated solely to college applications
  2. A GE College Prep online survey completed by their parents
  3. Login credentials for Naviance (or their school’s version of it)
  4. A list of colleges to which they will apply* (8-12 recommended)
  5. A fully charged laptop
